When Water Heater Repairs Are Needed, We Are There

Not all hot water heaters need to be replaced and repairs from a skilled professional can be an excellent way to get the unit up and running again. Depending on the size of the problem and the age of the unit, sometimes it makes more sense to repair your hot water heater. High 5 Plumbing’s Denver plumbing experts offer honest assessments and can help you make an informed decision regarding whether you should repair or replace your hot water heater depending on what’s right for your unique situation.

Signs Your Water Heater Is Failing

While the unexpected shock of a cold shower may be an obvious sign of water heater troubles, the truth is that many water heater issues begin small and can easily go unnoticed for weeks or even months before being addressed. Fortunately, many water heater problems can be detected early by regularly inspecting your unit and keeping an eye out for certain signs and symptoms.

Your water heater may be in need of repairs if you notice any of the following:

  • Popping, banging, or clanging noises coming from your unit
  • Excessive condensation or water pooling around the base of your unit
  • Rusty colored or odd smelling water
  • Your water heater produces warm but not hot water
  • You run out of hot water regularly

Is Replacement Your Best Option?

Many modern water heaters last 10 to 15 years, depending on the quality of the unit, the amount of use, and how well maintained. A water heater that keeps shutting off, leaks, or isn't keeping at the right temperature all point to signs that it might be time for a replacement or upgrade. If your water heater has reached the end of its lifespan, you should carefully consider its replacement.

Factors you should consider before purchasing a new water heater:

  • The type of unit
  • Your average hot water usage
  • The energy efficiency of the model
  • Your budget

You will also need to take into account what option will work best for you, such as a conventional heater or a tankless model. Tankless, or “demand” units are generally more energy efficient because they heat the water that you need, when you need it, instead of heating and storing gallons in a tank. This can save you money on your monthly utility bills in the long-run.

  • Professional, efficient and neat manner.

“Thank you to everyone at High 5. You solved all of my plumbing problems. And there were many, considering my home's 92 year old pipes and outdated sink and toilet. Levi and David worked up a very fair estimate, and Emily kept me informed throughout the project. Jimmy and Ryan are the best. They met every challenge in a professional, efficient and neat manner. Jimmy surely must be one of the best plumbers in Denver. Thank you again for everything.”

  • Professional, friendly, and patient.

“Jeff Long showed up (on exact time) & he was so professional looking, thought he was actually the owner! Showed him the outside faucets I was concerned about. He agreed with the front one but was honest with me to 'teach' me the correct way to put the attachment on when the swamp cooler is set up. He wore booties in the house & so appreciated it because I just had creamed color carpet put down in the basement! He went to valve box & taught me the 3 different "handles" & even labeled them with a sharpie. Jeff knew he just needed to turn off the one valve for the faucet but talked to me about the main water line. I could have let it go. Over the years I had big trust issues & although I still had 2 more companies coming to give estimates, Jeff was kind, didn't talk down to me as if I was stupid, talked to me as the professional in his field, knowing I was the lay person. He didn't force anything on me that would make me skeptical, so decided right then to hire him. He needed to go out to the street to turn off the main valve to the house & wasn't able to! I called the Aurora, Colorado water company & they told me he wasn't allowed to, only the city could. (So if you live in Aurora, Colorado be aware that you have to make appt. with the city before hiring a plumber!!!). What an inconvenience but Jeff was patient and tolerate of the situation. He went ahead & fixed the faucet issue & told me to call when the city came out after I made an appt. with them. Two days later the appt. was set up by the city & they said the plumber HAD TO BE there at the say time! Called Jessica at High 5 & said Jeff would be there. Then later that day, Jessica called to say Jeff was running behind & she knew my anxiety issues & assured me Dave, the co-owner would be there at the exact time needed, which he was! Then the water company showed up (bit late), got the water turned off; Jeff showed up to get the rest of the job done with redoing the pipe line & new handle for the main line so it was all in current standards. It was accomplished in a more efficient manner than I expected!!!! This company had to deal with this crazy lady, the city of Aurora & did so in a completely positive, professional, friendly, patient, understanding way and so much more!!! And Jeff didn't leave one mark on my cream colored carpet!!! Definitely a company that is reliant and so, so, so very tolerate and understanding.”
