How should I keep my toilets clean? While there are many commercial cleaners and products available, be aware that many of these can do more harm than good. Never use in-tank toilet cleaners, for example, and if your toilet was installed before 2003, it probably needs to be professionally cleaned. In the meantime, invest in a wire brush. This will not only safely clean your toilet, but it will work better!

How do I give my garbage disposal a long life and keep it working well? It is very important that you never intentionally thrown items down the disposal, and if something does fall in, call on our professional team to help remove or retrieve it. In addition, there are a lot of things that that you simply should not do.
- Ice cubes do not clean garbage disposals, they break them!
- Egg shells do not sharpen the blades and they can plug the drain line.
- Never put lemons into your garbage disposal to freshen your drain. Instead, our Denver plumbers at High 5 have a product to safely eliminate odors for you (ask us about Bio-Clean).

What is the best way to maintain my hot water heater? What should I think about when I need a replacement? All water heaters, even self-cleaning units, should be drained twice a year. Remember that water heaters only have a lifespan of about 10 to 15 years, after which they should be replaced in order to get the full benefit of hot water, when you need it, from an energy efficiency unit. When choosing a new water heater, there is a big difference between those that can be found at big box or chain hardware stores and those installed by a true professional. Don’t just rely on online reviews – our Denver plumbers have your best interests at heart and will find a until that matches your needs and unique specifications.

What do I need to know about my drain line? Drain lines often go unnoticed until something goes wrong. Remember to run water in every drain in your home at least once a month. At High 5, we recommend a treatment plan, such as BIO-CLEAN to prevent problems before they develop. In addition, it is important that you always listen and look out for problems and call a professional at the first sign of trouble.

What should my water pressure be? Can I decrease or increase it? In order to help protect your plumbing, your home’s water pressure should be between 50 and 75 psi. This will depend on the type of pipes you have, such as galvanized, PEX, copper piping, CVC, or polybutylene.
To help decrease this pressure, we can install inline pressure-reducing valves or a water filtration system which will not only decrease the pressure, but also increase your water quality!
On the other hand, if your water pressure is too low, a booster pump or storage tank system can be installed.
